Exemplar com danos na caixa do editor, assinatura coeva na badana anterior e com falta do mapa n.º 1. Obra com lista dos mapas na badana anterior. Mapas a cores na escala de 1 polegada = 1 milha, elaborados com base nas folhas dos levantamentos geológicos dos Estados Unidos. As características, composição e qualidades agrícolas dos solos são representadas por escalas de cores explicadas em gráficos nas margens de cada mapa. Raro e muito importante para a história dos organismos do Governo Federal dos Estados Unidos responsáveis pela agricultura e pela concessão de terras e empréstimos para a respectiva exploração, assim como para o estudo das tipologias de solos próprios para a exploração agrícola, em cada um dos Estados Federais. Milton Whitney (1860 - 1927) Começou a sua carreira como professor de geologia e de física dos solos no Maryland Agricultural College. Em 1894 tornou-se o chefe do Soil Bureau, uma divisão do U. S. Department of Agriculture?s Weather Bureau, que foi o antecessor do actual National Cooperative Soil Survey do USDA. 24x16 cm. With 37 fold-out maps with maximum dimensions of (66x109 cm.) packed in a waxed canvas publisher's box with gilt tooled spines. Copy with damage on the publisher's box, coeval signature on the front flap and missing map no. 1. Work with list of maps on the front flap. Colour maps on a scale of 1 inch = 1 mile, based on geological survey sheets from the United States. The characteristics, composition and agricultural qualities of the soils are represented by colour scales explained in graphs in the margins of each map. Rare, and very important for the history of the organisms of the Federal Government of the United States, responsible for agriculture and the granting of land and loans for its exploitation, as well as for the study of the types of soils suitable for agricultural exploitation in each of the Federal States. Milton Whitney (1860 - 1927) He began his career as a professor of geology and soil physics at the Maryland Agricultural College. In 1894 he became the head of the Soil Bureau, a division of the U.
