This text describes known routes to the Klondike, geological details like the distribution of gold bearing formations, characteristics of primary vein deposits, that of placer deposits and sources of coal. The early prospectors were warned of dangers like the White Horse rapids. A large folding map is in very good condition considering its age. The beautiful, color map unfolds to approximately 25" x 29" and provides information on the gold and coal fields of Alaska together with the principal steamer routes and trails. The map is in fine, unused condition. The introduction provides a brief history of Alaska plus detailed information is provided regarding rivers, climatic conditions, and routes to Klondike. Additionally information is provided on the physical description of Alaska including original deposits, or quartz veins, placer deposits, probable extent of gold-bearing deposits, coal and lignite, and other metals than gold. This report was prepared in accordance with Public Resolution No. 3 of the Fifty-Fifth Congress, Second Session, and approved January 20, 1898.
