Oblong book. 25.6x35.4 cm. 135 pp. Contemporary binding in cloth, with gilt tooled label in the front board with the title of the work and the name 'Amelia P. Leite '. The very crisp score is etched on metal plate with index of the numbers and respective plate number, with the text incipit of each part of the opera. Piano reduction of the original score of the opera Macbeth, a masterpiece of lyrical drama, an adaptation of one of Shakespeare"s most famous tragedies, which has premiered on March 1847 in Florence. A work of exceptional originality and musical grandeur received, however, a less favourable reception among ordinary audiences for lacking of love scenes and taking place in an oppressive environment, yet it became increasingly popular during the 20th century after the exalting performances of soprano Maria Callas as Lady Macbeth. The piano reductions of the orchestral scores were a very important means of study and dissemination of the masterpieces of music, as they allowed the operas to be played and sung at the homes of many people who would not have the financial or geographical possibility to attend the performances of the operas at the lyric theatres of the most important cities. Giuseppe Verdi (Roncole, 1813 - Milan, 1901), one of the greatest opera composers of all times, is the author of twenty eight Operas; a Requiem; pieces of sacred music; pieces for solo piano, for singing and piano, and chamber music among which a quartet of strings. During his long career as a composer, he has undergone periods of maturation and reflection that have led him to be open to very diverse cultural and musical influences, which has provided a constant evolution of his musical writing s.
