Neuware - Some armored vehicles become famous because of the battles they fought. Others become essential because they arrived at exactly the moment the battlefield demanded something more. The M36 belongs to that second category-a late-war answer to heavier German armor, shaped by urgency, adaptation, and the hard lessons of combat.M36 Jackson - Armored Legends Field Guide, Volume 16 follows the complete story of America's 90 mm tank destroyer, from the doctrinal problems that exposed the limits of earlier weapons to its development, production, combat debut, crew experience, variants, and long postwar career.Built around verified history rather than surface-level specifications, this field guide explains why the M36 was created, how it was actually used, and what its design meant to the men who fought from it. Technical details are always connected to real consequences-firepower, protection, visibility, ammunition handling, maintenance, mobility, battlefield employment, and survivability.Inside, you will discover: - How the M36 evolved from the M10A1, why the 90 mm gun became urgent, and how the new turret transformed an existing chassis into a far more capable anti-armor weapon.- What crews actually experienced, from open-turret exposure and ammunition handling to field modifications, armored roof solutions, maintenance demands, and practical battlefield improvisation.- How the Jackson fought across Europe, including France, the West Wall, the Ardennes, and Germany, with documented unit-level evidence, tactical employment, long-range engagements, and direct-fire missions.- How the M36 outlived World War II, through the M36B1 and M36B2, Korean and foreign service, Cold War use, and the evolution of the names 'Jackson' and 'Slugger.'Along the way, the book brings forward the details enthusiasts value most: production expedients, lesser-known combat reports, crew-level realities, unusual field solutions, ammunition performance, and historical points that rarely appear in shorter summaries.By the final page, you will understand the M36 as more than a 90 mm gun on a Sherman-derived chassis. You will see how doctrine, industry, crews, logistics, and combat experience came together in one of America's most important late-war tank destroyers.…

M36 Jackson — Armored Legends Field Guide, Volume 16 follows the complete story of America’s 90 mm tank destroyer, from the doctrinal problems that exposed the limits of earlier weapons to its development, production, combat debut, crew experience, variants, and long postwar career.
Built around verified history rather than surface-level specifications, this field guide explains why the M36 was created, how it was actually used, and what its design meant to the men who fought from it. Technical details are always connected to real consequences—firepower, protection, visibility, ammunition handling, maintenance, mobility, battlefield employment, and survivability.
Inside, you will discover:
- How the M36 evolved from the M10A1, why the 90 mm gun became urgent, and how the new turret transformed an existing chassis into a far more capable anti-armor weapon.
- What crews actually experienced, from open-turret exposure and ammunition handling to field modifications, armored roof solutions, maintenance demands, and practical battlefield improvisation.
- How the Jackson fought across Europe, including France, the West Wall, the Ardennes, and Germany, with documented unit-level evidence, tactical employment, long-range engagements, and direct-fire missions.
- How the M36 outlived World War II, through the M36B1 and M36B2, Korean and foreign service, Cold War use, and the evolution of the names “Jackson” and “Slugger.”
Along the way, the book brings forward the details enthusiasts value most: production expedients, lesser-known combat reports, crew-level realities, unusual field solutions, ammunition performance, and historical points that rarely appear in shorter summaries.
By the final page, you will understand the M36 as more than a 90 mm gun on a Sherman-derived chassis. You will see how doctrine, industry, crews, logistics, and combat experience came together in one of America’s most important late-war tank destroyers.
