A beautiful facsimile edition produced by The Folio Society in 2006. The original was commissioned by Sir Geoffrey Luttrell and produced circa 1320-1345, written by a single unknown scribe in Latin, believed to be illustrated by five or more illustrators, each with slightly different styles, on high quality vellum. The work is filled with illustrations depicting everyday lives of the medieval period, as well as imagined creatures, and has been an important resource for understanding the clothing, habits, and lives of the people of medieval England. The Psalter, which was acquired for the nation by The British Museum in 1929 for 30,000 guineas, is now held in the British Library.
This Folio Society limited edition facsimile is bound in blue Nigerian goatskin leather, with gilt and colour decorations to the front, gilt to all page edges, handmade endpapers, the pages are recreated from the original at The British Library, taken with high quality digital images and printed on quality Furioso paper, which gives the paper a lovely feel, and a similar appearance to the original vellum. The book is large and weighty, measuring approximately 36x26x8cm. Plus the commentary volume by Michelle P Brown, curator at The British Library. Quarter bound with dark blue buckram spine and blue laid paper sides, 206 pages, 25x16cm, plus the solander box which measures 39x28x12cm.
A few very faint scuffs to the outer box, the book is in lovely condition with just some slight wear to the edge of the page block. The commentary volume is as new, also comes with proof sample pages, brochures and promotional material. Near fine condition.
One of the most spectacular Folio Society productions.
