In a world where convenience is everywhere, many valuable everyday skills are slowly disappearing. Cooking from basic ingredients, preserving food, repairing household items, growing your own food, navigating without technology, preparing for emergencies, and making the most of what you already have are skills worth bringing back.
The Lost Skills of Self-Reliance is an engaging, practical guide to rediscovering traditional knowledge and developing useful abilities that can make everyday life more capable, resourceful, and prepared.
Inside, you'll discover practical guidance for:
• Building a more independent and resourceful mindset
• Growing food in gardens and small spaces
• Saving seeds and making better use of homegrown produce
• Drying, fermenting, freezing, and safely preserving food
• Cooking and baking from basic ingredients
• Sewing, mending, repairing, and repurposing household items
• Understanding and maintaining basic tools and equipment
• Handling simple household maintenance and repairs
• Preparing water, lighting, cooking, and emergency supplies
• Developing practical navigation and outdoor skills
• Staying calm and making sensible decisions when technology or services are unavailable
• Teaching valuable skills to children and family members
• Creating a realistic 90-day plan for becoming more self-reliant
You don't need a homestead, expensive equipment, or years of experience to begin. Many of these skills can be learned gradually with ordinary household supplies, simple tools, and consistent practice.
Whether you want to reduce waste, save money, become more capable around your home, prepare for unexpected disruptions, reconnect with traditional knowledge, or simply learn skills that have been forgotten over time, this book provides a practical place to start.
Learn to make, mend, grow, preserve, repair, prepare, and adapt.
Step by step, you'll discover how small practical abilities can build greater confidence and independence. Instead of relying on convenience for everything, you'll learn how to use your hands, your resources, and your knowledge more effectively.
Bring useful skills back into your everyday life—and start building a more capable, resourceful, and independent future today.
