What Happened to the Ancient Priestess—and Why Are Modern Women Being Called to Reclaim Her Sacred Path?
For thousands of years, women stood at the center of sacred life. Ancient priestesses served as healers, oracles, temple leaders, mystics, counselors, ritualists, and guardians of Divine Feminine wisdom. They honored the cycles of the moon and Earth, interpreted dreams, led ceremonies, and served as bridges between the human and the divine.
Over time, many of their stories, teachings, and spiritual roles disappeared from traditional history.
The Lost Lineage of the Soul: Reclaiming the Ancient Path of the Priestess explores ancient priestess history, Goddess traditions, Divine Feminine spirituality, sacred ritual, and women’s spiritual leadership.
Blending historical inquiry, spiritual reflection, and sacred practice, Bertena Varney follows the changing role of women’s spiritual authority from Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome through the Middle Ages, European witch trials, and the modern Goddess spirituality revival.
But this is more than a history of ancient priestesses. It is also a spiritual map for women who feel called toward a deeper, more embodied sacred path.
Inside this book, you will explore:
-
The history and roles of ancient priestesses
-
Goddess worship and sacred feminine traditions
-
Priestesses, healers, oracles, mystics, and wise women
-
The decline of women’s spiritual authority
-
The European witch trials and suppression of women’s wisdom
-
The modern Goddess movement and revival of women’s spirituality
-
Ritual, ceremony, intuition, and ancestral healing
-
Women’s circles and spiritual sisterhood
-
The priestess archetype as an expression of wisdom and service
-
Ethical spiritual leadership, discernment, and healthy boundaries
-
The dangers of spiritual bypassing and ungrounded authority
-
Creating a personal priestess practice for the modern world
The book also introduces four pillars of modern priestess work: sacred connection, ritual and ceremony, healing and counsel, and community stewardship. Together, these pillars provide a grounded framework for developing a spiritual practice rooted in integrity, embodiment, compassion, and service.
This book is for women drawn to Divine Feminine spirituality, Goddess traditions, ancient priestesses, women’s circles, lunar practices, intuition, ancestral wisdom, Earth-based spirituality, ritual, healing, and sacred leadership.
It is for the healer, intuitive, teacher, mystic, caregiver, or spiritual seeker who has felt spiritually homeless or sensed that there is more to her path than she was taught.
You do not need to follow a particular religion, worship a specific Goddess, or hold a formal title to explore the priestess path. You need only a sincere desire to learn, remember, serve, and reconnect with the sacred wisdom awakening within you.
The priestess is more than a figure from the ancient past. She is an enduring archetype of sacred connection, embodied wisdom, devotion, compassionate leadership, and service.
The priestess is not gone. She is rising again—and she is rising through you.
