The dramatic true story of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish aristocrat who went to Budapest during World War II on a special mission to save as many Jews as possible from the Holocaust.
Using Sweden’s neutrality and the diplomatic authority of the embassy, Wallenberg worked tirelessly to issue fake passes to Jews in order to rescue them from deportation and death. He also persuaded other neutral embassies to act in like manner.
Through his utter commitment and ingenuity, thousands of Jews were saved from certain death. His almost magical commanding presence made him a legendary figure at the time. The mystery of his disappearance in the final stages of the war makes the story all the more intriguing and tragic.
Originally published by Marshall Pickering in 1991 and by Templegate in the US. This new edition will be fully revised and updated.

From the Back Cover
'I'm Wallenberg of the Swedish Embassy. You're holding my people. I demand their release.'
Raoul Wallenberg became a legend, appearing in the nick of time to snatch life from death all over Budapest. His courage, inventiveness and sheer charisma saved thousands of Jews from the gas chambers of Auschwitz. He was only one man, yet his actions saved the Jews of Hungary from extinction.
But after the war, he disappeared into the Gulag, feared as a spy in the paranoid years of the Cold War. Taken into custody without reason or charge by the Soviet Government, Raoul Wallenberg has never received the freedom he gave others. His family has had no word of him since 1945. If alive, he would now be almost ninety years old.
"He placed his own life in jeopardy, day in day out, in order to continue his rescue efforts. Raoul Wallenberg, the Jewish people is forever in your debt. We shall hand this memory down to our descendants… to be cherished always."
MENACHEN BEGIN, Nobel Prize winner and former president of Israel
