Item description from seller

Three wonderful books, each book is a bright red cloth bound hard-back, with gorgeous gilt titles on the spine. Each book comes with its own, not price clipped, dust jacket. Some wear to jackets around the edges. As these books are used, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. The three books are the revised, second edition, published 1970, fifth impression, printed in Great Britain in 11 on 12 point Imprint type by Jarrold & Sons Ltd, Norwich. Published by George Allen & Unwin Ltd. The three books are in really good condition, all pages intact and nice tight bindings. Previous owners name signed on first blank page in pen and ink. If you thumb through each book the pages look like they have hardly been used or read, but the jackets as you can see from the photos do have some wear and tear around the bases, spines and corners, probably only to be expected when the books are over fifty years old. Please note for overseas buyers the shipping/postage price may increase from listed shipping/postage price depending on final destination. 1. THE RETURN OF THE KING: 440 pages and map is in good condition. 2. THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING:423 pages, map is in good condition. THE TWO TOWERS: 352 pages and map in good condition. The Lord of the Rings is not a book to be described in a few sentences. It is an heroic romance, something which has scarcely been attempted on this scale since Spenser's Faerie Queene, so one can't praise the book by comparisons, there is nothing to compare it with. What can I say then? continues Richard Hughes, for width of imagination it almost beggars parallel, and it is nearly as remarkable for vividness and for the narrative skill which carries the reader on, enthralled, for page after page. By an extraordinary feat of the imagination Mr Tolkien has created, and maintains in every detail , a new mythology in an invented world.
