First deluxe India paper edition; 3 vols in 1, 8vo (230 x 150 mm);title printed in red and black, two folding maps plus one in the text, a couple of minor spot to rear folding map and a tiny corner crease to lower outside corner of last few leaves, else internally near-fine; publisher's black buckram with design after Tolkien blocked in gilt, silver and green to upper cover, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, preserved in the original black card slip-case, slight fading to the spine (as usual now), some rubbing to corners of slip-case, otherwise, also near-fine; 1200 pp. All three volumes of Tolkien's masterpiece condensed into one copy.
