1954. Second Impression. 248 pages. In English. Dimensions: 19.5c, x 12.5cm x 2cm. Dust jacket with design by Anthony Gross, over publisher's red cloth. Blocked white letters to spine. Golding's debut novel, and still a popular choice to study in schools today. Pages remain clean and bright, with firm binding. Light tanning to page edges, with a touch of foxing. Neat handwritten gift inscription on front endpaper, with an added quip ("Strange book - your choice") to paste down. Boards remain in good condition, with mild wear and small bumps to the edges. It does have some small splits (approx. 2mm) to spine ends, which have sunned to a lighter shade of red. Long water stains can be seen around the board edges, but do not exceed a height of 1cm. Book has a forward lean. The clipped jacket unfortunately has a quarter of the spine missing (another part is slipped into book). Evident wear and tears, tanning, stains and soiling to the jacket, but it retains its appeal.
