"Looking Forward" is a refreshingly positive appraisal of the next forty years, infused with the business acumen, vitality, and spirituality of its editor, John Marks Templeton. In "Looking Forward", he has joined forces with nine other world leaders in their fields to produce this truly inspiring collection of essays united in their informed and reasoned optimism about the future. In "Looking Forward", John Templeton brings forward his remarkable personality, filled with vitality and awareness, and his lifetime of work in philanthropy, religion, and business, to assemble this distinguished group of contributors. "Looking Forward" tackles such areas of concern as the economy, medicine, religion, the family, the environment, charity and philanthropy, education, and science. The result is a sorely needed upbeat yet realistic view of the human race's future as we enter the twenty-first century. John Templeton gives his own knowledgeably optimistic view of the future and the world economy, focusing in particular on declining trade barriers and the spread of free markets. Ruth Stafford Peale describes the future of philanthropy and charity and illuminates the salient role they will continue to play in the years to come. Dr. Denton A. Cooley, the renowned heart surgeon, tells of the stunning advances to come in medicine. The Reverend Dr. Theodore M. Hesburgh, president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, shows the direction education must take in the years to come. Dr. Armand M. Nicholi, Jr., a clinical psychologist at Harvard University Medical School, tells how to combat the stresses and temptations threatening our families today. In an ever more complex world, with the reports of crime, war, recession, and dictatorship multiplying seemingly without end, "Looking Forward" represents good news for the human race. It is a strong stimulus to action and a powerful antidote to despair.
