About Looe Bookshop
Welcome to Looe Bookshop. The history of my bookshop is colourful. I moved my book-selling business from East Looe to West, and now it's called nothing fancy but - West Looe Bookshop. It took two months to move to the new location, but with help of local writers, poets, book-lovers and friends, we did it - we saved the bookshop! The grand opening of West Looe BOOKSHOP happened on 3rd February 2025. Bookshop's building sits on 18th C street, located on the other side of the river, on a tiny backstreet - Princes Street leading to Jolly Sailor and Spar. Looking back, how it all started - in June 2019 I & my late partner Neil Stone reopened the only bookshop in Looe - The Old Hall Bookshop, in association with the owners of the Old Hall & The Old Hall Bookshop Sam and Jo Hawes (Bosco Books). Originally The Old Hall Bookshop is known to have been opened around 1974. The building was Wesleyan Church, then 19th century Methodist Chapel upstairs and Sunday School on the ground floor. Situated on Shutta Road, in the historic Fishing town of Looe, in South East Cornwall. Through the years we have had many lovely customers who are returning year by year , for some the Bookshop was the main destination of their trip. In 2022 the Old Hall building was put on the market for sale, so we knew there would come a day to search for a new home for the bookshop. In Autumn 2024 the Old Hall Bookshop building was almost sold, that's the reason we did not wait anymore and prepared to move to a new location. The Old Hall Bookshop now is open by appointment by Sam & Jo Hawes. West Looe Bookshop is OPEN mostly Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (12.00 to 16.30) but days and times may change - usually I try to open some extra days and hours. So, please do follow me on Facebook finding "West Looe Bookshop" for all bookshop-news and daily updates. Contact by email westlooebookshop@gmail.com
