Print on Demand. This book transports readers back to a time when the world's best riflemen faced off in a contest of skill and national pride. It chronicles the early days of international long-range rifle shooting in America, beginning with the historic 1874 Irish-American match at Creedmoor, Long Island. The author vividly captures the atmosphere of these matches, from the tense anticipation before each shot to the thunderous roar of the crowd upon a bullseye. He goes beyond simply recording scores, however, delving into the characters and personalities of the shooters, including their unique shooting styles and backgrounds. The book offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of 19th century marksmanship, exploring the development of the sport, the rivalry between nations, and the dedication and discipline required to master this demanding skill. The author's detailed account, enriched by personal anecdotes and historical context, makes this book a captivating read for anyone interested in the history of sports, the evolution of firearms, or simply a well-written tale of competition and camaraderie. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
