RARE AUTHOR SIGNED COPY - FINE COLOUR PLATES : A Limited impression, undated but published in 1883. In a Red Half Leather crushed morocco binding by Henry Sotheran Ltd; with 5 raised bands and gilt titles and embellishments within the compartments. Marble style pastedowns and endpapers, minor fox spotting, mostly to the preliminary pages, but not heavy at all { see images }. Is a clean and tightly bound copy. Note to p.48 'For those who may wish to transfer some of the smaller illustrations to scrapbooks, the text has been printed on one side of the paper only'. A book with charm and character, retaining all of the text and plates. The six plates of Charming children were published by S. and J. Fuller in 1819, and ten further colour printed engravings by Thomas Rowlandson are copied in facsimile from the 1820 'Characteristic Sketches of the Lower Orders'. The remainder are from others printers of the period, to include Charles Phillips; James Catnach and J. Lumsden, while the more recent cuts have been printed from the blocks.
