Neuware - In ninth-century Baghdad, mystics struggled to speak after the self had disappeared. In The Logic of the Void, Aydin Rahmani examines how early Sufi masters confronted the paradox of annihilation (fana?) without dissolving coherence, law, or responsibility. Drawing upon the intellectual legacy of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib and the disciplined sobriety of Junayd of Baghdad, this book reveals how mysticism learned not only to negate the ego-but to survive its disappearance through baqa? (subsistence).Through a careful analysis of language, silence, paradox, and spiritual authority, the book explains why extreme mystical utterance required a grammar-and how that grammar protected the tradition from chaos, antinomianism, and political danger. Figures such as Bayazid Bastami appear not as anomalies, but as necessary moments in a disciplined evolution from ecstasy to responsibility.Neither romantic nor polemical, The Logic of the Void offers a sober, historically grounded account of how Islamic mysticism preserved depth without abandoning structure-and why true realization was measured not by disappearance, but by return.Ideal for readers of Islamic history, mysticism, and the philosophical foundations of Sufism.…
