Item description from seller

"Sales/posting to the USA suspended". Hard cover dust wrapper, small quarto, viii/248pp, b&w photos. A fine copy. In 1940 and 1941 the War in the Atlantic seemed to be being won by the German U-boats. These submarines sank merchant shipping quicker than it could be replaced and in so doing almost starved Great Britain of precious resources and food. The existing escorts were, on the whole, not ideal as they had, for the most part, been built or designed before the war. Plans were drawn up for a new frigate construction program to utilise pre-fabrication techniques to both speed construction and to reduce the risk from enemy attack by using multiple dispersed construction sites. The resulting Loch class was to prove to be among the best anti-submarine frigates produced by Great Britain during the war, although most of the class only entered service from 1944 onwards. One hundred and ten ships had been projected, but with the end of the war only 28 were completed. This volume records the design and service record of these vessels.
