DESCRIPTION: 220,  pages AND 137  pages respectively; 23 cm. SUBJECTS: Poetry/Ljóð; Stories/Prose/Fiction/Smásögur; Icelandic-Canadian Literature; Icelandic Literature/Íslenskar bókmenntir. AUTHOR BIO : The author, Jón Stefánsson, was a pioneer of the Icelandic settlement in Manitoba, living first at Gimli, Manitoba, then at Steep Rock, Manitoba - where he engaged in farming, fishing and writing. Considerable Canadian content in 1923 work: includes a toast to New Iceland, a poem about Stephan G. Stephansson, two poems on New Iceland (i.e., in Manitoba), poem about Selkirk (a town in Manitob) a poem on Gimli, a poem about an individual in Gimli, etc. Also considerable Canadian content in second book of 1927, e.g., toast to settlers at 50th anniv. of settlement in Gimli; poem re Icelandic cultural preservation in Canada; poem about resident of Betel home in Gimli, and novel/novella portion is set in Canada. Referenced in Hjartar, page 29. Hjartar states that this book differs from same-named publication of 1927 - the content is different, as are the number of pages, and the two volumes are published by (at least nominally) different publishing houses in Winnipeg.
