About this title

Synopsis

"A Liturgical Study of the Psalter" provides an in-depth exploration of the liturgical and ceremonial elements present within the Book of Psalms. Cuthbert Cubitt Keet meticulously examines how individual psalms functioned within the context of ancient Jewish worship, moving beyond simple textual analysis to consider their practical application in religious rites. The work investigates the connection between the structure of Hebrew poetry and the demands of public ceremony, offering insights into the musical and ritualistic traditions of the Second Temple period.

By analyzing various psalms through a liturgical lens, Keet reveals the intersection of personal piety and corporate devotion. The book discusses the roles of various groups in the worship service, the use of instruments, and the specific occasions for which certain psalms were composed or adapted. This scholarly study serves as a vital resource for those interested in biblical history, the development of Jewish liturgy, and the foundational religious practices that influenced later Western worship traditions. Through its focused inquiry, "A Liturgical Study of the Psalter" illuminates the vibrant ceremonial life that gave rise to one of the most influential books of the Bible.
