Add to basketPocket-size, hardcover children's book written by J.T. Bell and published in the 1870's. The cover is titled Little Jim, when it should be Little Jem, the Rag Merchant. Also, the picture on the cover has nothing to do with the Little Jem story line with-in. The book is all correct on the inside, just has the wrong cover for it. A very scarce book with little information on it to be found, although there is plenty of info on the publishers and printers. The printing company Hazell, Watson and Viney began in 1843 when George Watson bought a small jobbing printer and stationer business. As the company grew, new partners Hazell and Viney joined and in 1875 the company named Hazell, Watson and Viney was established and used until 1884, when the name changed. Hazell, Watson and Viney are listed in the book as the printers so the book would have been printed some time between 1875 and 1884. Little Jem the Rag Merchant is a heartfelt story about a young boy and his mother trying to survive poverty in the 19th Century. The story has a light religious touch and an excellent moral to it. 64 pages with lithograph etching illustrations, cover has corner edge wear, binding is good, pages are all there and firmly intact, some have small spots of staining, 1st cover page has a pencil inscription. Overall good condition, good story, good children's book like no other! Approximately 4 1/2" x 3 1/2".
