Item description from seller

Hardback with dust jacket. Very good/near fine. Measures approximately 6.25 x 8.25 inches. Dust jacket is intact, clean, and without major flaws. It does have mild edge wear with several short tears, some loss at the corners, a couple of pieces of tape on the spine (although they don't seem to be there for a reason), rubbing on the edges, and several small black spots. Jacket is in a new protective Brodart cover. The book is in near fine condition. The top two board corners have small bumps and there is some sticker residue on the back, else boards have little to no wear. Spine is tight. Pages are clean and crisp. Inscription on the front free end page. The book appears to be a first edition, second state (not counting the original first edition), and the dust jacket appears to be a third state. The true first edition of The Little Engine That Could has blue cloth boards with a black spine and was issued in a box with no dust jacket. In the early 1930s, Platt & Munk changed to red cloth boards with a dust jacket and no box. There are five main states of the book with numerous variations, and eight main states of the dust jacket with several variations.
