Canadian children's science fiction writer Monica Hughes (1925-2003) wrote over 30 books and won almost every award for young adult fiction. She is best known for her Isis trilogy novels which chart the development of a small human colony on a distant planet through three generations, and explore the origins and consequences of prejudice and ignorance.
