Avant de signaler les emprunts que nos Jardins d'utilité ou d'agrément pourraient faire à la flore du Chili, il me paraît convenable de donner un aperçu du climat de cette région, puisque le succès de nos introductions de plantes exotiques est inévitablement subordonné aux conditions météorolo giques de nos latitudes, conditions auxquelles nous ne pou vons rien changer. Plus nos climats, généraux ou locaux, se rapprochent de ceux où croissent les végétaux que nous cherchons à y introduire, plus nombreuses, naturellement, sont les chances de succès. Il arrive souvent qu'à l'aide de données météorologiques sur les pays d'origine, même seu lement approximatives, nous préjugeons presque à coup sûr les résultats de nos essais. J'espère faire voir par ce qui va suivre, et que j'emprunte en majeure partie a un excellent traité sur l'agriculture du Chili, par M. Cl. Gay, que les pro babilités de naturalisation des plantes chiliennes en Europe it en particulier dans la France méridionale sont fort grandes. C'est un autre travail du même auteur, la Flora cbilena, qui nous fournira la liste, très-abrégée, des emprunts qu'à un titre ou à un autre nous aurons à faire à cette fertile contrée. Toutefois je ne dois pas laisser ignorer que le Chili n'a encore été exploré que très et qu'après les Molina, les Claude Gay et quelques autres explorateurs moins re nommés, les voyageurs botanistes auront encore dunpor tantes moissons à y faire.
Le Chili est en effet assez vaste pour occuper les chercheurs de plantes pendant encore bien des années. C'est, en le sait, une longue et étroite bande de terre, reserrée entre les Andes à l'est et l'océan Pacifique à l'ouest, s'étendant ainsi, presque parallèlement au méridien, sur 16 degrés de latitude et com prenant plus de 1130 lieues kilométriques. Sa largeur, comp. Rativement peu considérable, peut être évaluée en moyenne à 50 lieues. Cette configuration du pays unique au monde l'immense ceinture de montagnes qui le bordent à l'est, cl dont plusieurs sommets dépassent celui du mont Blanc; une seconde chaîne moins élevée, dont les contre - forts poussés jusqu'à la mer diversifie... les expositions et multiplient _les climats locaux; toutes ces circonstances réunies font du Cbif i une des régions botaniques les plus intéressantes de l'amé rique du Sud, en même temps qu'une des contrées les plus favorables à l'agriculture. C'est là, peut - être, du moins en partie, ce qui explique son état florissant, son industrie rela tivement développée, les remarquables progrès des arts et des sciences depuis le commencement du siècle, l'activité de: son commerce, sa richesse et, comme corollaire, son incon testable supériorité sur toutes les autres républiques améri ca1nes d'origine espagnole.

Returns Policy
We ask all customers to contact us for authorisation should they wish to return their order. Orders returned without authorisation may not be credited.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.

The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
