xxiii + 464 pp all original hb in tree calf gilt. 14 x 22 cms. Five raised bands. Highly decorated gilt spine, lacks bottom three inches (see image). No Publisher printed on Title Page. Discrete library stamp "Guille-Alles Library. Guernsey", with cancellation. All edges and eps marbled. Addenda and three Indices bound in to rear. Index No. 11 lists all Printers. Rarity. Author was Keeper of the mss and Librarian to his Grace the Arthbishop of Canterbury. [Samuel Roffey Maitland, 1792 - 1866, was an English historian and miscellaneous writer on religious topics. He was qualified as an Anglican priest, and worked also as an Editor, Barrister, and Librarian, as we see here]. N.B. His bibliography states this our publication as: "An Index of such English Books printed before the year MDC as are now in the Archiepiscopal Library at Lambeth, pp. xii, 120, 1845". We have a privately printed precursor. [The archbishop at the time, 1843, was William Howley, 1766 - 1848. He was a clergyman in the Church of England and served as Archbishop of Canterbury from 1828 to 1848].
