Print on Demand. This book explores the viability of implementing a new lightning-express rail system capable of traveling at speeds of between 120 and 150 miles per hour. The author examines the challenges of constructing a railway suitable for such speeds, proposing the adoption of the single-rail system developed by Lartigue. This innovative design promises greater stability and safety compared to conventional rail lines, as derailment is virtually impossible due to the vehicle's unique framing and the presence of a central guide rail. The author provides detailed calculations and technical analysis to support the feasibility of the single-rail system, addressing concerns about structural integrity, stability, and the impact of high speeds on the surrounding environment. The book also discusses the potential impact of such a high-speed rail line on existing rail networks and the broader implications for transportation and urban planning. Ultimately, this book presents a compelling case for the development of a new generation of rail systems capable of dramatically reducing travel times and revolutionizing long-distance transportation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The expenditure of power required would necessitate the strict limitation of the load to the exigencies of the traffic. It would therefore be inadvisable to undertake, as on ordinary lines, the obligation to despatch by any particular train all the passengers who may desire to travel by that train. It would be preferable, as the line would be devoted exclusive to this one class of traffic, to reduce to a minimum the carrying capacity of each train, and to increase the number of trains, so as to equalise, as far as possible, the strain on the central distributing station hy subdividing the power into relative small quantities. The result would be not only to reduce working eases, hat to comply more satisfactorily with the requirements of traffic, as passengers would be certain of always finding a train starting within a short time. With auch speeds it is also desirable not to use cars coupled in the ordinary manner, as in case of any accident to one of a series the impetus on the others would only increase the damage. The method would therefore be to work with trains of sufficient capacity, composed of a limited number of vehicles coupled in a special manner so as to really form only one carriage of several links, und the number of such trains could be multiplied according to require mente and to the exigenäes of safety.
