Telling the truth does not produce a magical rescue. Instead, Maya must navigate temporary displacement, institutional intervention, fractured family relationships, and consequences she cannot control. As Maya's family begins rebuilding, she must learn that she is not responsible for saving everyone she loves and that her worth does not depend on how useful, quiet, strong, or resilient she can become. The second novel in The Book That Found Us Series, The Light Maya Hid explores domestic violence, youth homelessness, educational barriers, student retention, coercive control, personal identity, and the difference between accepting help and surrendering ownership of one's life.…
