This slow-burn novel featuring the universal theme of rags to riches can best be described as a romantasy, containing the best elements of both genres. Its intricate plot is full of unexpected twists and characters you love to love, and love to hate, with a classic forbidden love story unfolding in a futuristic world far from Earth.

In the 25th century, in the royal palace on the planet Thrace, Karine is a palace gardener who turns out to be much more than she seems, after being tasked with teaching the prince how to be romantic so he can properly woo a prospective bride.

His Light is the crown prince, who reluctantly employs Karine, then falls for her, while being manipulated by a mysterious and powerful villain. Chronos is a time traveler who uses the couple's relationship toward his own ends, intending to steal lightning-wielding technology from the prince.

Asher is an annoying and dangerous rival for Karine's affections, while Verue is Karine's best friend at the palace. She is one of many concubines in the royal brothel.

On Thrace, the military has mastered the use of lightning and electricity as weapons, while the monarchy uses not so thinly veiled totalitarian rule.
