The fourth edition of this work in the publisher's original decorative cloth binding, with pictorial gilt to the front board.Originally published in 1848, this popular work by John Forster explores the life and times of Oliver Goldsmith, an important author who wrote The Vicar of Wakefield, The Deserted Village, and others. This biography, split into three parts, opens with his birth and closes with events after his death, mostly regarding his family, until 1801. It is illustrated throughout with in-text illustrations by C. Stanfield, D. Maclise, John Leech, Richard Doyle and Robert James Hamerton. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, smart. Fading to the spine but boards and gilt decoration remain bright. Internally, firmly bound.
