Journey through the life of Oliver Plunket, a key figure in Irish Catholic history, told with careful scholarship and reverent detail.
This historical biography presents the arc of Plunket’s life—from his Dublin birth and family connections to his rise as Archbishop of Armagh and his enduring legacy as a defender of faith during a turbulent era. Drawing on archival material, the book traces his education, calls to ministry, and the challenges he faced as persecution shaped the church in Ireland and beyond.
What you will encounter includes a portrait of his early life, his links to prominent Irish families, and the broader context of Catholic resilience in 17th‑century Britain and Ireland. The narrative also highlights the legacy that followed his death, including how his memory was venerated and preserved in religious communities across Europe.
- A clear, chronological account of Plunket’s upbringing and education
- Details on his rise within the Irish church and his historic role as primate
- Context for the religious and political climate of 17th‑century Ireland
- Insights into his lasting impact and how his memory was honored
Ideal for readers of Irish church history and biographical works about courageous religious figures.
