NB: "The Life of George Washington" is a monumental, five-volume biography written by renowned American author Washington Irving and published between 1855 and 1859. This extensive work was the crowning achievement of Irving’s career, completed just eight months before his death at age 76. Driven by a unique personal connection—Irving was named after George Washington and actually met and was blessed by him as a young boy—the biography was an agonizing labor of love researched over a decade as Irving’s physical health steadily declined. Instead of portraying Washington as a distant, unapproachable "Olympian demi-god," Irving heavily utilized primary documents, diaries, and letters to present a deeply human, flesh-and-blood leader. The 1,370-page masterpiece traces his evolution across five sequential volumes. This Volume Two charts the siege of Boston, the challenging Canadian venture, and the opening campaigns of the American Revolution in New York and New Jersey. The covers are mildly worn, the corners are lightly bumped and worn, the green label on the spine is missing, the hinges are strong and the text block is unmarked, tight, square, and clean. All illustrations are clean and fresh. VERY GOOD. Irving's Works: Geoffrey Crayon Edition. 21. Engravings. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 596 pages Very Good No dust jacket as issued Author's Revised Edition.
