In Life After Loss, author Catherine Kenwell curates an exceptional collection of true essays that weave a tapestry that showcases flickering moments of grace and courage. With a variety of contributors, this anthology does not offer prescriptive answers or glib platitudes. Instead, this book washes the reader with honest stories that are guaranteed to resonate loudly—sharing the reality that no one is alone with or exempt from loss.
This book is perfect for the person who wants to enjoy a profound and raw collection of creative nonfiction essays. It is also an ideal gift for a friend who is currently going through a season of loss.
From The Prairies Book Review:
Raw, poignant, and wonderfully engaging…
Kenwell’s touching latest delves into the myriad forms of loss, highlighting how these experiences shape an individual’s emotional landscape and worldview. Through personal stories, the book explores themes of betrayal, trauma, the shattering of innocence, and the struggles of dealing with PTSD. Tara Shannon’s introspective contemplation of existential grief to Nadia Liva’s journey towards peace in the face of death, each writer offers a unique and profound perspective. Jason McKenzie empowers through his metamorphosis from victim to victor, while Michele Sparling delves into the complexities of relationships in her poignant letter to her father. A bold red lip becomes a symbol of resilience and self-discovery amidst trauma for Catherine Kenwell. Betty Penny’s story showcases the emotional odyssey of accepting one’s past while embracing their present and future after experiencing a traumatic brain injury. These intimate narratives demonstrate the power of storytelling to connect, inspire, and bring comfort to readers on their own paths through grief. With messages about seeking support, having empathy, and finding gratitude in healing, this collection invites reflection on our own emotions and experiences in light of these shared stories. Ultimately, it reminds us that while loss can bring immense pain, it also presents opportunities for personal growth and rediscovering hope. While the book may not provide definitive answers, its authenticity and poignant exploration of universal themes make it a valuable read for anyone grappling with grief. Outstanding.
