Item description from seller

Very Good in a Very Good DJ: The Book shows a small but rather dark stain at the fore-edge; a tiny nick at the bottom edge of the front panel; a thin line of sunning at the heel of the back-strip; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. Free of ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing a couple of minor imperfections. The DJ shows a 3/4" tear at the top of the rear hinge; a tiny, faint smudge at the upper front panel; mild rubbing to the panels; the price has been clipped. Remains attractive. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Large 8vo (9.3 x 6.3 x 0.95 inches). Maps. Notes. Introduction and Notes by Ross Calvin. Language: English. Weight: 20 ounces. Hardback with DJ. This is the account of a military expedition in 1846 led by W. H. Emory, a topographical engineer, which ventured from Fort Leavenworth, Missouri, to San Diego, California. It is a diary of the expedition from August 2, 1846, to January 20, 1847. Scholars of the American West consider Emory's report to be a gold mine of accurate, first-hand information. Editor Ross Calvin provides impressive explanatory notes. It's one of the best accounts of a long, laborious, difficult journey on foot and on horseback through the rugged terrain of the American Southwest, then occupied by various indigenous peoples, some friendly, some not so friendly. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 208 pages.
