Gianni Rodari era convinto che «gli errori non stanno nelle parole, ma nelle cose; bisogna correggere i dettati, ma bisogna soprattutto correggere il mondo»; da qui nascono le storie e le filastrocche di questo libro pieno di personaggi simpatici, poco amici, in qualche caso, dell'ortografia e della grammatica. ma non spaventatevi: per correggere gli errori il «maestro» Gianni usava una validissima grammatica della fantasia capace di consentire a tutti, attraverso il sorriso, il pieno possesso delle parole «non perché tutti siano artisti, ma perché nessuno sia schiavo».
