Paperback. There is a drawer in the back of a dead letter office that a postal worker was never supposed to keep. Inside it: dozens of letters written and never sent - to lost loves, absent parents, forgiven friends, and versions of ourselves we never became. For decades, the letters pass from hand to hand - a niece clearing out a house, a stranger at an estate sale, a bookseller sorting donations, an archivist who can't bring herself to throw them away. Each person who finds them reads a little further into a stranger's unspoken grief, joy, regret, and hope. When Naomi Ashworth finally sits down with the whole collection - including a letter her own mother wrote and never sent to her - she realizes she has been waiting for someone else's words to give her the courage to finally write her own.
