Letters from the Frontiers. Written During a Period of Thirty Years’ Service in the Army of the United States. By George A. McCall and published in Philadelphia by J.B. Lippincott and Co. 1868 first edition. 539 pp. 8.25” x 5.5”. 8vo. Hardcover full cloth. As-is, with scuffing and staining remnants to exterior. Starting to hinges at front and rear. Title page cleanly detached. Ex-library from the Boston Public Library system, with bookplate, card holder, and assorted stampings and markings. Staining remnants at front and rear, with wear most visible on pastedowns and end pages. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce early printing on the military career of George A. McCall (1802-1868), an American military officer who served from 1822 to 1853, and again as a Union brigadier general from 1861 to 1863. Captured during the Peninsular Campaign, he was held in Libby Prison and later released in a prisoner swap, and resigned shortly after due to illnesses that worsened in captivity. A great piece for restoration and rebinding. Published the year of McCall’s death.…
