The nation continues to witness the discrimination, inequality, mistreatment, and marginalization of Black Men. What can we do to preserve ourselves? In this book, one will find the answer to the aforementioned question.
Meet 44 authentic Black Men who have shared words of perseverance, wisdom, hope, and achievement. The writings will cultivate a deeper sense of self-worth, build character, and set a standard of living for every black male, in whose hands it is placed. Letters To Our Brothers is a collection of letters, prose, and quotes written by Black Men to encourage, motivate, challenge and support other Black Men.
Authors of the letters represent black men from various socioeconomic statuses, diverse childhoods, careers, ages, household compositions, religious belief systems, and different life experiences. Some of the authors shared their personal stories of overcoming adversity, while others provided tools and techniques for success. Overall, all authors were intentional about ensuring their brothers received a message of hope and love.
"This book is a national treasure that excels at layering both emotional context and bold declarations of many voices. I haven't read such brilliant excerpts of expressions, oriented around the questions of inspiration and triumph," Letter To Our Brother's joins a particular tradition of African-American Books about strong men, recalling their life lessons learned and their marvelous outcomes. This book is eloquent and wonderfully conceived; I got the chills so many times while escaping into the thoughts of the courageous passages of letters in this book. It completely blew my mind. It managed to surpass my high expectations AND be nothing at all like I expected. If I sound stunningly inarticulate at times in this review, I cannot help it. My mind is completely overwhelmed with the emotion of the openness and the honesty displayed by these men. This book is like the fresh voice of reason, with its richly developed culture of men and its splendid ability to inspire, not to mention its thought-provoking power of victory. The excitement around this book has been unquestionable; it made me both eager to get my hands on it and excited to read it. This author is definitely one to watch. This book is truly a must-read for both young and old in a time of actions and encouragement!"
-Eric Kelly III, The Carolina Times
"We live in a time when the United States of America has become the Divided States of America: white people against black or brown people, rich against the poor, whites against whites, and blacks against blacks. The list goes on and on. As a 47-year-old Black man, this narrative may not change in my lifetime. However, it is imperative that we teach our young men who they are and the strength they obtain walking by faith in God. Our life circumstances, greatest failures or fears are no excuse not to pay it forward to the next generations to come. I applaud the men who came together to create a book such as LETTERS TO OUR BROTHERS. I pray that every young man and every father has an opportunity to read this book and will begin to encourage himself from within by faith, because that's where true Healing, Confidence, and Leadership begins."
-James McKnight, Former NFL Wide Receiver
"Letters to Our Brothers is a book I want to put into the hands of every man I love. As a therapist serving families where the identified patients are often young black boys, I see identities and spirits broken in them long before they come of age. Many of them are fatherless. This book has the ability to act as a mentor of sorts for men who are feeling lost, wavering, or stuck."
-Nicole M. Pertillar - Author, Artist, Coach, Community Advocacy
"This book will serve as a roadmap for men of all ages, because we need guidance all the way through the race. Thank you Jason and co-authors for creating a legacy piece that will serve generations to come."
-Patrick J. Patterson, MSW, MPH -"Mr. Fatherhood"
