Item description from seller

One page, in ink, in secretarial hand. Good example of the autograph of the famous Swiss-born economist and Louis XVI's Minister of Finance from 1777 - 1781 and again in the months leading up to the French Revolution, when he was caled back to the government to try to save the country from ruin. Interestingly, the letter was written shortly after the American Revolution of 1776. France's monetary support of the American cause (with Necker's strong support) in the midst of a financial crisis, became a major source of controversy, and none of Necker's efforts to keep the country afloat financially were successful. Necker's daughter was the famous writer, Madame de Staël. Minor, light foxing. Framed, and accompanied by a mezzotint portrait by Levacher (framed), ?Néker Ministre d?Ètat?, (ca. 1797) One page, in ink, in secretarial hand.
