New Brunswick, NJ, 1921. Single leaf (28.0 x 21.5 cm cm). Typed letter with handwritten signature. = Typed letter (dated 13 December 1921) on the printed stationery of Rutgers College and the State University of New Jersey, by the American malacologist and oyster culture researcher Thurlow Christian Nelson (1890-1960) to the French marine biologist, ichthyologist, parasitologist, and director of the Service des Pêches Coloniales, Robert Philippe F. Dollfus (1887-1976). Dollfus was a son of the malacologist Gustave Frédérique Dollfus (co-author of the famous Les mollusques marins du Rousillon), and was interested in Mollusca himself. Paul Henri Fischer wrote his necrologie in the Journal de Conchyliologie 114(3-4), p. 131. In this letter, Nelson replied to an earlier letter by Dollfus regarding the American oyster culture, involving Ostrea virginiana, versus the European oyster, Ostrea edulis. This was the subject of a publication by Nelson and in this letter he acknowledged sending a copy to Dollfus. In a hand-written postscript note - added in the lower margin - he also acknowledged the reception of papers by Dollfus. Neat, weak folds. A very good, clean item. Seller Inventory # 71898
