Print on Demand. This book by the author analyzes the negative effects of the Tread-wheel as a form of punishment for prisoners in the 1800s. The author argues the machine was a form of torture that led to many prisoners to suffer severe physical and mental health issues (including death). The author's personal experience working as a prisoner on the Tread-wheel gives the book a powerful perspective on the devastating effects of this machine. Despite being created to replace the death penalty, the Tread-wheel is presented as equally cruel and unusual punishment. The author highlights the importance of understanding the cruel and unusual nature of the Tread-wheel to ensure it is never used again. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

Complicated evils of this new and formidable engine of terror, the Tread-wheel. He is aware that by omitting some remarks, and modifying others, he might have less exposed himself to censure and opposition: but he took up his pen to record the honest senti ments of his heart, and the deliberate con viction of his mind. He loves his country, and the judicature of his country - that justice and impartiality with which its laws have been administered to every class of society; to the poor and friendless, equally with the rich and powerful: and he nowcomes forward to appeal against a departure from wholesome and established usages and to deprecate a system which has an essential.
