Moderate toning, light soiling to exterior, light foxing to a few leaves, inscription (affected by trimming) "John Tyrell Esq with the author's Complime[nts]" to head of title page, marginal pencil marks to several pages. $150. * Only edition. An entry in the spirited and lengthy public debate in Great Britain over the establishment of a general register for titles and deeds, similar to that created in Ireland in 1822. Though the idea was first proposed under Henry VIII, no such register would be created in England until the passage of the Land Registry Act in 1862, which established a registry of titles (but not deeds). The system created by the act was voluntary and largely ineffective; successive attempts at reform failed until the Land Registration Act of 1925. Walters and Tyrrell were both barristers and members of Lincoln's Inn working in conveyancing and real property.
