Publication Year: 1862 (Second Edition, Enlarged)
Description:
Embark on a fascinating journey into the world of marine engineering with W. H. King's "Lessons and Practical Notes on Steam, the Steam Engine, Propellers, Etc." Designed for young marine engineers, students, and professionals, this comprehensive manual offers a deep dive into the intricacies of steam power and propulsion, specifically tailored for maritime applications. King's expertise shines through in this second, enlarged edition, which has been revised and updated by J. W. King, Chief Engineer of the U.S. Navy. The text breaks down essential concepts, including the properties of steam, mechanical effects, and the components of steam engines such as valves and expansion systems. Readers will find valuable insights into the use of hydrometers, dealing with maritime engineering casualties, boiler scaling, and maintenance of steam engines. From understanding thermodynamic principles to mastering the operation of steam-driven machinery, this book remains a critical reference for those involved in naval or commercial steam-powered vessels.
This historical text has been meticulously preserved and brought back into print by Leopold Classic Library, ensuring high-quality reproduction for today's readers.
