There is no manual for survivors of suicide. No rules to help those left behind to navigate their grief and anger. When Nancy Jo Nelson's husband disappeared, her entire life was upended. Her daughter was distraught. Her son, fightened and confused. And since she'd recently asked for a divorce, her husband's family-and the police- were suspicious. There were no clues. No answers. No reasons she could grab onto. Yes, he was an alcoholic, but he'd been sober for years. Yes, he'd been unhappy with the prospect of divorce, but they'd made prgress. They were going to be civilized about the whole thing. At least that's what she told herself. Months later, when his remains were found in a nearby park, she realized she'd been wrong. And that she and her children would have to begin the life-long process of learning to survive suicide.

Review
Nancy Nelson’s Lessons from the Ledge takes us on her journey through a tragedy that no one would want to experience. Her raw, transparent and authentic writing walks us through that experience with her, teaching us how to navigate our own life-ledge moments. Our family experienced the dark depths of loss after losing our first daughter to Pompe’s disease. I know the view from the ledge all too well.
—Wendy Franz, Designer
With unflinching candor, Nancy Nelson shares her complex story of grief and loss. Unable to protect her children from the pain and sorrow brought on by her soon-to-be ex-husband’s suicide, she digs deep spiritually on her journey from shock to healing. Anyone whose suffered loss will relate to this book, and, in particular, widowed moms will benefit from Nelson’s honesty and wisdom.
—Heidi Kronenberg LCSW, Director of Operations at ESME.com
One of my closest and dearest friends, Nancy Jo Nelson shares her journey of dealing with and overcoming a horrible tragedy that could have left her hopeless. For anyone who is trying to deal with tragedy, grief and loss, Lessons From the Ledge provides hope and encouragement that there is a way to heal, forgive, and regain control of life.
—Joe Pulio, Teacher at Lake Forest High School
The hard-learned lessons Nancy Nelson shares throughout the book on guilt, forgiveness, grief, self-love, and joy are life-changing. Your “mess” is now your “message” and one that the world definitely needs to hear.
—Gail Brown, President/Founder of Engaging Speakers
