Author, and curator of the museum, Eric Turton has taken nine themes, ranging from local politics to the changing face of Leominster's streets and buildings, and with them explored several aspects of the rich history of this ancient Herefordshire market town. The work of some of the area's earliest photographers, such as Robert Jones and Edward Evans, is carefully presented and offers fascinating and vivid snapshots of nineteenth-century Victorian Leominster. The past of this rural English community is recreated in detail, bringing alive a society in which the influence of the great houses of the area was still substantial, railway lines cut through the countryside in several directions and each national celebration found massive and enthusiastic local expression. This collection is sure to enchant readers of every generation.
