Paperback. What if becoming a better educator begins not with changing the learner, but with changing the way we see them?In Lenses for Learning: An Unexpected Way of Seeing, Dr. Deborah Goodwin reflects on an extraordinary journey from a child who once believed she was not a successful student to a teacher, principal, superintendent, university professor, doctoral advisor, school improvement specialist, and lifelong learner. Through personal stories, classroom experiences, leadership lessons, humor, setbacks, and more than three decades in education, Goodwin explores how different "lenses" transformed her understanding of teaching and learning. She examines learner differences, student engagement, school culture, relationships, collaboration, leadership, assessment, and the importance of creating environments where people feel safe enough to learn and confident enough to grow. Her journey eventually develops into a philosophy she calls And Learning for All: the belief that effective schools are built around people rather than programs and that every learner deserves the opportunity to succeed.
