Item description from seller

This is a 3 Volume Set: each volume is in near fine condition, and each volume has a near fine condition dust jacket. All volumes are bright, and are pristine and unmarked. This set appears previously unread. Subtitles: Volume One, "The Strengths of Contradiction," ISBN 0-253-33324-5, 246 pages; Volume Two, "Worlds in Collision," ISBN 0-253-33325-3, 422 pages; Volume Three , "The Iron King," ISBN 0-253-35181-2, 393 pages. Quoted from the inside flap of Volume One: "Lenin: A Political Life is a major three-volume work on Vladimir Ilich Lenin, his ideas, activity, and environment. The first volume, covering the years from 1870 to 1910, traces his rise to authority and reputation among Russian Marxists around the turn of the century, and his political troubles after 1903. The second volume will take the story through to 1918, showing how Lenin reascended his party's heights and led the Bolsheviks in the October Revolution. The third volume will deal with his struggles, until his death in 1924, to adapt policies to the postwar situation in Russia and the world. The trilogy presents a comprehensive critical analysis. Both Lenin's strengths and his weaknesses as leader and theorist are given their due. The volumes draw attention to much hitherto unused source material and take into account the most monographs on modern Russian social, economic, and institutional history. Each section of his political life is examined, with an emphasis on the contemporary conditions and pressures of Lenin's career. Service ably demonstrates the conplex interplay of ideas, activity, and environment that prompted the choice of title for the first volume: The Strengths of Contradiction."
