About this Item

Description:

Grand in-8° broché, XXII, 429 pp. Couverture verte imprimée originale, exemplaire à grandes marges non rogné. Le dos est fendu au millieu mais l'ouvrage reste de belle tenue. "Ernst von Feuchtersleben (1806-1849) had a clear conception of a total personality and considered mental diseases-diseases of personality-in the same manner as doses the psychiatry of the twentieth century for the most part . Feuchtersleben offered a classification which was of no consequence, but he stressed more than anyone else the importance of psychotherapy for mental disease. He thought it the most logical method of treatment, one which would reconstruct some of the mental deviations . Feuchtersleben came closer than any one of the 'pure psychologists' of the first half of the (nineteenth) century to the solution of the problem of how mental diseases develops and affects personality, and to the conclusion of the great importance of psychotherapy. "Zilboorg & Henry, pp.477-478So "this book was altogether new departure in psychiatric writing. He not only introduced into psychiatry a new standard and a new methodology but also a number of new terms" as psychosis, psychiatrics, and psychopathology. - Hunter-Macalpine, pp.951-954It was also after the publication of this book that the terms "amnesia", or total lost of meory, "hypermnesia" or heightened memory, and "dysmnesia" or morbidly altered memory came to be generally adopted."Von Feuchtersleben book contains perhaps a half dozen paragraphs on the Ego" Altschule, Roots of Modern Psychiatry, p.31Included in his book (pp.7-75) is a survey of the history of psychiatry from the earliest time to the time of Heinroth.Garrison & Morton No.4929.1; Norman 793.
