Item description from seller

Fine in fine dust jacket. Hardcover. 269 pp. with index. Illustrated with photos. The author recreates the 1939 season of the New York Yankees, a team that can make a strong claim to be the greatest in baseball history. 1939 itself was a pivotal season the Hall of Fame opened in Cooperstown that summer; a major league game was televised for the first time; night baseball came to the American League. And for the Yankees they won their fourth consecutive World Series and Joe DiMaggio had possibly his finest season. The year was not without sadness as in May Lou Gehrig took himself out of the lineup after 2130 consecutive games.
