Fascinating local Putnam County history ledger with appearances of all the local neighbors. Signature of David B. Peck (1821-1897) on inside front cover. A continuous daily journal from February 28, 1842 and continues to October 1843. 2nd vol. from Oct. 12, 1843 through October 16, 1847. Payment is made to Peck for mending boots, shoes, horse collars and harnesses. Born in Kent, Putnam County, NY in 1821, David B. Peck was the son of Harry Peck and Ann Baker. The families of many early settlers of the area are amongst his clients, including Frederick Ludington, a descendent of the Ludington's who include Sybil Ludington, famed for her ride to warn area patriots of the approach of British troops from Danbury. Other clients include Francis, Joseph, Jess, Horace & Moses Mead; Coleman & Horace Townsend; Freman & Warren Sprague; Samuel, Joseph, Jessa and Stephen R. Barrett; David & Harry Kent; Hannah, Solomon and Thomas Denton; Isaac Ballard; Henry Baker; Jonathan Davis; John Knap; Luman & Allen White; George Livingston; John Baldwin; Mary Benjamin; Beldin Tompkins; (Anon) and Sabuna Disbro; Judah Nortrup; Elisha Travis; Levi Miller; Elisha Robinson; Russell Taylor & Gary Burch. Peck is buried in Maple Avenue Cemetery in Patterson, Putnam County, New York. Oblong 8vo, approx. 6.5 by 7.5 inches, Vol. I 136pp., Vol II 144pp., hand numbered. Brown quarter calf with hard paper boards (vol. I brown marbled, vol. II blue). Edges rubbed, vol. I lower right corner bumped and 1/2" closed tear on bottom, vol. II right top corner bumped with loss, dusty cover with blue ink stain. Both clean internally. Seller Inventory # 17837
