Boston: Richardson, Lord and Holbrook, 1830. 1830 second edition. Important work in the history of schools in the United States, with focus on recommended qualifications for and directions to teachers and modes of teaching, with a final chapter directed "to female instructers". Tan boards with brown cloth spine, paper spine label, 136 pages plus publisher's ads. Covers rubbed, mainly at the edges, and lightly spotted, spine heavily chipped, especially at the joints, spine label still mostly there but no longer readable, old linen tape hinge repairs, college library bookplate and withdrawn stamp on front pastedown, pages lightly age-toned but clean with fairly light foxing, one short vertical line of dots in one margin. Also includes an 1835 inscription that the book was presented to the library of the "Orphans Home at the Monadnock Manual Labor Female Seminary in Troy, New Hampshire by George Tilden Egan [?] of Keene", as well as the name "John Tatlock Librarian" written in the upper margin of page 79. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
