1st thus (1885). 567pp + catalogue. Original red cloth with blind borders to boards, gilt VR royal cypher on front board and gilt titles to spine. VG book, binding tight with slight forward lean, cloth covers clean and bright, spine a little darkened, internally excellent. Department of Science and Art of the Committee of Council on Education (West London School of Art) prize bookplate on front pastedown and blind stamp on title page. Pencil name on ffep verso and ink initials on bookplate of English Establishment artist Sir Lawrence Gowing (1918-1991), from whose library this was acquired. Seller Inventory # 024789
